How is land measured in Nigeria?
In Nigeria, land is measured in four different terms;
Hectares- is used for a wide expanse of land and comprises about 15 plots and two and half acres.
Acres- this comprises of six plots of land and can be compared to the size of a football field. It’s total measurement is about 4,046sqm Or 43,560sq ft.
Square feet- is also a measuring unit for land sizes. It is a unit of length in the Imperial Customary Systems of Measurement.
Square meter- the unit used for measuring rooms, land or any other area.
What is the size of a plot of land?
Plot is majorly used to describe a piece of land in Nigeria. There are two globally accepted standards of measurements. They are Imperial and Metric. A plot of land can be measured using various units that fall under these two standards of measurements such as hectares, square meters, square feet or acres. Hectares and meters fall under the Metric while Acres and feet fall under the imperial.
Plots are usually used to describe small pieces of land and feet and meters are the systems of measurements used. These sizes are usually purchased for construction of smaller buildings which could contain apartments or for commercial purposes. However, hectares and acres are used to measure larger portions of land.
